(the HD space saver for your DLG BBS)

WHAT IS IT ?
""""""""""""
DLGfdf (no it's NOT a typo !) helps you with the horrible task of finding
double files (or files with multiple versions) in your DLG-Pro BBS. It
scans all your file area's and compares the first x (adjustable) chars of
the filenames and produces a list of double files that can be saved. It's
also possible to compare the files in your BBS with files on other devices
(files not uploaded to the BBS).
HOW DO I INSTALL IT ?
"""""""""""""""""""""
You don't... Starting the file 'DLGfdf' is enough. Just put it somewhere
in your searchpath.
HOW DO I USE IT ?
"""""""""""""""""
(Almost as easy as installing it ;-) )
After starting DLGfdf wait until your file area's are scanned (or stop the
scanning with the 'Stop' gadget if you don't want all your file area's to
be scanned).
Select the area's that must be scanned with the 'first area' and 'last
area' slider gadgets (or leave them the way they are if you want to scan
the entire file base).
Select the number of characters that must be compared at the beginning of a
filename. You can also adjust the number of characters that must be
skipped at the beginning of a filename (although this isn't very helpful in
most cases).
With the 'scan dir/device' gadget it's possible to add files that are in
another directory or on an other device (files not uploaded to the BBS) to
the filelist that was generated from the BBS. This way it's possible to
see if a file is in the BBS as well as somewhere else.
Press 'Generate list' and wait until the list is generated (and displayed
in the listview gadget).
After this you can modify the comparisation parameters, save the list,
quit, whatever...

THE HISTORY OF DLGFDF
"""""""""""""""""""""
??-???-?? V0.0 Well, not really a program. A simple scriptfile that was
sorted afterwards. Not very useful.
??-???-?? V1.0 A small program that scanned the entire FILE: directory tree
and produced an ASCII list of double files (did not read
file.dat filelist but scanned directories and skipped .fd
files, indentified double files by comparing the first 4
chars). (never released)
24-Oct-94 V2.0 Completely rewritten. This time it has a GUI, reads file.dat
files for maximum speed etc. etc. (first release)
03-Nov-94 V2.1 Cosmetic changes. Scanning of BBS can now be interrupted.
File lists can be now be appended to eachother (or to other
files). Added possibility to scan a device for files and have
them compared with files in your BBS (idea by Sean Clarke).
